Sr Test Engineer - Automation (Selenium + Java/Playwright + Javascript + AI Testing)

Overview

Gartner is hiring a Senior Test Engineer for its agile, scrum-based Sales and Services technology team. The role covers testing of web, agentic and API applications and integrations, with a focus on test automation and AI-assisted testing.

What you'll do

• Code, unit test, execute functional testing, and create test automation scripts.
• Design, build, and maintain code and effective test automation solutions which meet requirements and specifications (Smoke, Functional, Regression, etc.).
• Develop and maintain quality assurance plans, test data, procedures, and scripts.
• Leverage AI-driven tools and techniques to strengthen coding and manual and automated testing workflows, including AI-assisted coding and test case generation, intelligent test execution, and automated result analysis.
• Support the validation of internally built AI agents.
• Ensure accurate and complete coverage of code and designated test areas.
• Write effective manual and automated test scripts within approved testing tools using documented requirements and technical specifications provided by the project team.
• Provide development and test status, document and fix defects, and communicate potential risks.
• Understand new product requirements and coordinate work across multiple project phases or complex assignments.
• Balance development, quality, timelines, and resource constraints to deliver high-quality products.

What you'll need

• 4-6 years of experience in an IT or business environment testing highly scalable applications, with significant experience designing automation platforms and writing automated tests.
• Experience testing applications through both manual and automated tests.
• Proficiency in coding and automating web applications using Java or JavaScript, and test automation tools and frameworks including Selenium, TestNG and/or Playwright.
• Experience with API and performance test tools, including the ability to customize code for load test creation, preferably JMeter.
• Well-versed in Bitbucket/Git source control.
• Experience writing SQL queries, procedures, and functions.
• Hands-on experience writing and testing web services.
• Good exposure to AI-driven or agentic programming and testing approaches leveraging multiple AI models.
• Expertise in prompt engineering, including designing and optimizing prompts to drive AI agents for coding, test generation, execution, and validation.
• Ability to independently support projects and work with various stakeholders.
• Strong qualitative and quantitative problem-solving skills, with a high level of ownership and accountability.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with good interpersonal skills.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
• Excellent communication and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work independently or within a team proactively in a fast-paced Agile-Scrum environment.
• Takes responsibility for successful delivery of solutions.
• Strong desire to improve skills in software testing and technologies.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of the Salesforce platform and database validation using SOQL.
