Overview
Staff Engineer (IC) to own the client application layer for Sarvam’s native mobile and desktop apps using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) across five platforms.
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end architecture for mobile and desktop apps with a shared KMP core.
- Ship and evolve Indus and Kivi native apps across Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, and macOS.
- Lead the KMP adoption strategy, including common-code vs native boundaries and shared module design.
- Integrate model APIs (ASR, TTS, translation, LLM, vision) with streaming responses and graceful failure handling.
- Drive performance and reliability across platforms (cold-start, memory, audio latency, crash-free rate).
- Set client engineering standards for CI/CD, testing on real devices, code review, and documentation-first architecture.
- Mentor engineers on platform-native depth and KMP discipline.
What you'll need
- 9+ years building production mobile and/or desktop applications with strong ownership.
- Deep Kotlin expertise including coroutines and flows and modern Android architecture.
- Comfort with Swift on iOS and at least one desktop platform (Windows, Linux, or macOS).
- Hands-on KMP experience with shipped/in-production shared modules and expect/actual boundaries.
- Strong native audio and streaming pipeline experience (capture, playback, buffering, VAD, codec handling).
- Experience shipping offline-first or constrained-environment apps (low bandwidth/low RAM).
Nice to have
- Experience with on-device model inference or on-device ML (TensorFlow Lite, Core ML, GGML, or equivalent).
- Background in speech or audio processing (e.g., codec work, sample-rate handling, echo cancellation, VAD).
- Experience building voice-first or dictation products, especially multi-language/Indic language voice experiences.
- Desktop app shipping experience via Kotlin/Native or JVM-based desktop targets, or app distribution experience (Mac App Store, Microsoft Store, or Linux package managers).
- Experience with Compose Multiplatform shipping to both mobile and desktop from a shared codebase.
