Staff Engineer, Software

Overview

Design, build and maintain scalable Python and Java software applications and backend services, with a strong focus on quality, security, performance and maintainability.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, test and maintain Java and Python based applications and services.
• Translate business and technical requirements into scalable software solutions.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend integrations.
• Participate in architecture and design discussions.
• Perform code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and support root-cause analysis.
• Write unit, integration and automated tests.
• Improve application performance, security, scalability and maintainability.
• Collaborate with product, QA, DevOps and other engineering teams.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
• Contribute to technical documentation and continuous process improvement.

What you'll need

• Strong hands-on experience in Python, including Django and Django REST Framework (DRF).
• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or Oracle.
• Experience with ORM frameworks such as Django ORM, JPA and Hibernate.
• Good understanding of OOP, design patterns, SOLID principles and clean coding practices.
• Experience with unit and integration testing using pytest, JUnit, Mockito or equivalent frameworks.
• Knowledge of application security, authentication and authorization.
• Experience with Git, code reviews, debugging, static code analysis, Agile and SDLC practices.
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills, with the ability to independently own and deliver technical solutions.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Typically 12+ years of relevant software development experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with microservices and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with Celery, Redis and asynchronous/background processing in Python applications.
• Experience with Python testing, code quality, type checking and dependency management tools.
• Knowledge of Spring Security, Spring Cloud or reactive programming.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Knowledge of monitoring, observability, performance tuning and scalability.
• Familiarity with OpenAPI/Swagger or GraphQL.
• Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as Angular, React or Vue.js.
• Familiarity with responsive design, accessibility, web performance and UI automation using Cypress, Playwright or Selenium.
• Experience working in regulated or quality-focused environments.
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives.
