Staff, Software Engineer

Overview

Staff Software Engineer on Walmart's Catalog team, which manages the product data lifecycle for Walmart's digital ecosystem: ingesting partner items, enriching and standardizing information, and serving accurate content to the website and downstream systems.

What you'll do

• Guide the team in architectural decisions and best practices for building scalable applications.
• Drive design, development, implementation and documentation.
• Build, test and deploy cutting edge solutions at scale, impacting associates of Walmart worldwide.
• Interact with Walmart engineering teams across geographies to leverage expertise and contribute to the tech community.
• Engage with Product Management and Business to drive the agenda, set your priorities and deliver products.
• Drive the success of the implementation by applying technical skills to design and build enhanced processes and technical solutions in support of strategic initiatives.
• Work closely with the Architects and cross functional teams and follow established practices for the delivery of solutions meeting QCD (Quality, Cost & Delivery), within the established architectural guidelines.
• Work with senior leadership to chart out the future roadmap of the products.
• Participate in hiring and build teams enabling them to be high performing agile teams.
• Interact closely for requirements with Business owners and technical teams both within India and across the globe.
• Position Summary: drive the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs, developing and communicating business plans and priorities, removing barriers and obstacles, providing resources, setting performance standards, measuring progress and adjusting performance, and developing contingency plans.
• Provide supervision and development for associates by selecting and training, mentoring, assigning duties, building a team-based work environment, establishing performance expectations, conducting regular performance evaluations, providing recognition and rewards, coaching for success and improvement, and promoting a belonging mindset.
• Promote and support company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by training others in their use, ensuring compliance, and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy.
• Ensure business needs are met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs and initiatives, consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers and key stakeholders, soliciting and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and participating in and supporting community outreach events.

What you'll need

• Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
• Option 2: 6 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
• 10+ years of experience in development of highly scalable applications and platform development.
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in leading the technical team with strong communication skills.
• Experience designing and implementing REST API web services using Java/J2EE, Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring MVC.
• Strong in writing modular and testable code and test cases (unit, functional and integration) using frameworks like JUnit, Mockito, and Mock MVC.
• Experience developing micro-services architecture, with good understanding of distributed concepts, common design principles, design patterns and cloud applications.
• Experience in troubleshooting critical production issues at the platform level.
• Experience designing and testing RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
• Experience working with caching technology like Redis, Memcache or other related systems.
• Experience working with Kafka.
• Experience working with GraphQL and REST APIs.
• A good understanding of and experience integrating with AI/ML/Gen AI services and components.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
