Overview
Lead technical direction across a major feature area or system domain as a Staff Software Engineer, owning outcomes on ambiguous, cross-cutting problems and guiding engineers beyond your own team.
What you'll do
- Lead architecture and design for systems with significant scope and blast radius, ensuring decisions hold up under real growth, compliance, and reliability constraints.
- Pay attention to application performance.
- Exercise judgment on where AI-assisted tooling accelerates delivery and where deeper human design thinking is required.
- Partner with Product, UX, and other engineering teams early, shaping problems before solutions are locked in.
- Build working relationships and technical credibility beyond your immediate team.
- Set engineering practices for code review norms, testing standards, and incident review rigor that get adopted by teams you don't sit on.
- Identify and address systemic risk (technical debt, architectural drift, single points of failure) before it becomes an incident.
- Mentor Senior and mid-level engineers on technical judgment: how to scope ambiguity, when to escalate vs. decide, and how to use (and not over-rely on) AI tooling.
- Help engineers build the skill of writing decisions down clearly enough that others can disagree productively.
What you'll need
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Devin, Windsurf, or similar) in a professional setting.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering/development experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience and expertise in object-oriented design methodology and application development using Java/J2EE, Design Patterns, DSA, Multithreading, Spring MVC, SQL, Web services.
- Experience with elastic search and data streaming tools like Kafka.
- Good understanding of web services and SOA related standards like REST/OAuth/JSON.
- Agile development (Scrum, XP, or Pair Programming) experience.
- Ability to use a wide variety of open-source technologies and cloud services (Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services).
