Overview
Design, execute and automate system-level test plans for Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking features and platforms, with a focus on Python-based test automation.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, execute and automate feature, platform and system-level test plans based on product, platform and solution requirements.
- Validate Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking features as part of broader system and solution workflows, such as switching, routing, resiliency and high-availability scenarios.
- Perform platform testing, including hardware bring-up, interface and forwarding-path verification, boot, upgrade, ISSU, reboot and recovery scenarios, and redundancy, failover and scale testing.
- Develop and enhance test automation frameworks and reusable libraries using Python (PyTest preferred; Robot Framework is a plus).
- Execute end-to-end solution testing covering multi-device topologies, control-plane and data-plane interactions, and traffic validation.
- Use networking test equipment (e.g., Spirent, Ixia) to generate and analyze traffic for functional, performance and scale testing, and automate its usage where applicable.
- Analyze failures and debug complex issues spanning software, hardware and network layers, and collaborate with engineering teams on root cause analysis.
- Document test coverage, results, defects and risks, and provide clear status updates to stakeholders.
- Support customer escalations by reproducing issues in lab environments and validating fixes.
What you'll need
- Automation-first mindset with strong experience in Python-based test automation (PyTest), and the ability to build and extend automation frameworks.
- Good understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 concepts such as Ethernet, VLANs, basic switching, IP routing and routing adjacencies.
- Ability to validate complete platforms and solutions, not just individual features.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities across platform, protocol and system interactions.
- Clear communicator who works effectively with development, architecture and customer-facing teams.
- Comfortable picking up new features, platforms and technologies as products evolve.
- Exposure to at least one area: Layer 2 and Layer 3 features (VLANs, LAG/LACP, spanning-tree variants, OSPF, BGP, ISIS, basic multicast); platform and system validation (hardware-software integration, control-plane and data-plane behavior, resiliency, scale and performance testing); high availability and resiliency (redundancy, failover, convergence and recovery); or test infrastructure and tools (traffic generators, lab automation, CI/CD-driven test execution and result reporting).
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in networking, platform or system-level product validation / QA.
Nice to have
- Robot Framework experience.
- Master's degree.
- Familiarity with EVPN/VXLAN, VPLS or virtualized networking environments.
- Networking certifications (Juniper, Cisco, or equivalent).
Details
- Onsite role, with the expectation that you will primarily work from an HPE office.
- Location: Bengaluru, Karnātaka, India.
