AI/ML Scientist (Applied Scientist)

AI/ML (Applied Scientist) role focused on designing, building, maintaining, and iterating data-driven products that impact terminal operations.

What you'll do

• Design and deliver advanced solutions for terminal operations including equipment efficiency, yard positioning, vessel loading/unloading sequencing, and vehicle routing.
• Build operational tools for real-time, day-to-day terminal operations and strategic models for long-term planning and decision-making.
• Translate physical yard realities into logical mathematical models and connect the yard with code.
• Explain complex model rationale and results to non-technical operators and leadership for rollout to production.
• Monitor model performance against actual physical terminal events and iteratively improve models for operational drift.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of industry experience building and delivering technical or optimization solutions.
• M.Sc. or PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent practical depth).
• Production-quality Python delivery experience for data-centric applications integrating ML/optimization/simulation/statistical logic into software.
• Ability to observe an operational bottleneck, frame it mathematically, and choose analytical tools.

Nice to have

• Experience with container terminal operations, port logistics, or comparable operational environments.
• Experience in material handling/manufacturing optimization and sequencing problems.
