Overview
Define and own the end-to-end architecture for web applications, APIs, and data platforms within MassMutual India's technology organization.
What you'll do
- Define and own the end-to-end architecture for web applications, APIs, and data platforms, covering scalability, performance, resiliency, security, and cost.
- Translate business and product requirements into architecture blueprints, reference architectures, and technical roadmaps.
- Establish and govern engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices, and document key decisions through architecture decision records (ADRs).
- Lead design and architecture reviews, and ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance requirements.
- Design database schemas and data models, and define data storage, aggregation, and integration strategies across SQL and NoSQL technologies.
- Architect RESTful API strategy, including design standards, versioning, authentication and authorization, and lifecycle management.
- Design cloud-native solutions on AWS, including deployment topology, security set-up, and infrastructure approach.
- Define CI/CD, testing, observability (logging and monitoring), and release strategies to enable reliable, repeatable delivery.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and tools; recommend adoption through proofs of concept and technical due diligence.
- Guide and mentor engineers through hands-on technical leadership, code and design reviews, and prototyping of critical components.
- Collaborate across cross-functional teams (product, engineering, security, infrastructure, data) to resolve technical dependencies and drive alignment.
- Identify and manage technical debt, risks, and trade-offs, communicating them clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Promote and contribute to open source libraries and internal reusable components where appropriate.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent quantitative field, or relevant experience.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in an architect or technical lead role.
- Proven experience designing distributed, scalable systems using patterns such as microservices, event-driven architecture, and API-first design.
- Strong knowledge of non-functional requirements (performance, availability, security, scalability, maintainability) and how to design for them.
- Strong object-oriented and functional design skills.
- Ability to produce clear architecture artifacts (system context, component, sequence, and deployment diagrams).
- 7+ years of experience with backend languages such as Python, NodeJS, or Java.
- Deep experience designing and building REST APIs (Java or NodeJS preferred), as well as consuming and integrating them.
- 5+ years of experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases, such as MySQL, AWS Aurora, MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, Redshift, and AWS DynamoDB.
- Strong data modeling and database schema design skills.
- Experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration patterns.
- Strong experience architecting and deploying web applications on AWS.
- 5+ years of experience with at least one of Spark, Docker, AWS, or Kubernetes.
- Solid understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum).
- Experience with logging, monitoring, and observability tooling.
- Experience with Git version control and GitHub (3-5+ years).
- Working knowledge of modern frontend frameworks such as ReactJS or Angular, sufficient to guide full-stack design decisions.
- Excellent analytical, data-driven decision making, with strategic and conceptual thinking, planning, and execution skills.
- Proven success leading in complex, matrixed, cross-functional projects, including influencing without direct authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to senior technical and business stakeholders.
- Proficiency with the Atlassian stack (Jira, Confluence) and collaboration tools such as Slack.
Nice to have
- Master's or PhD preferred.
- AWS Solutions Architect certification (Associate or Professional) or equivalent.
- Experience in financial services or insurance, or other regulated industries.
- Experience with security architecture, including identity and access management, encryption, and compliance frameworks.
