Architect - Traffic and Security

Overview

Architect the technical direction of eBay's traffic engineering platform across traffic management, service connectivity, caching, load balancing, and traffic security.

What you'll do

• Define architecture for global traffic management, load balancing, caching, and security systems.
• Deliver rate limiting and bot mitigation solutions across edge and service layers.
• Design high-performance distributed systems using C/C++ and Go.
• Drive Kubernetes networking patterns, including CNI, service mesh, and IPAM.
• Improve observability, SLOs, reliability, and operational efficiency using production signals.
• Lead cross-team architecture, technical decisions, and execution across Product, Infrastructure, SRE, and Security.
• Mentor senior engineers and technical leads through architecture, design, and code reviews.

What you'll need

• 15+ years of software engineering experience.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Go.
• Deep knowledge of Linux networking, traffic management, and systems performance optimization.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure at scale.
• Experience designing and operating secure, scalable, observable distributed platforms.
• Demonstrated cross-team technical leadership and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Envoy, service mesh, NGINX/HAProxy, SDN, eBPF, or comparable technologies.
• Experience with rate limiting, bot management, abuse prevention, and traffic security.
• Background in PoP design, caching strategies, and internet-scale traffic optimization.
• Open-source contributions, patents, or externally visible technical leadership.
