Benefits Underwriter

Overview

Underwrite Health insurance coverage for new business and renewals, including rating, risk evaluation, pricing, quoting, and account servicing.

What you'll do

• Underwrite new and renewal Health coverage using manual and experience rating.
• Analyze risks and communicate underwriting recommendations and corrective actions.
• Prepare timely quotes and binders and calculate premiums.
• Review applicant medical histories, financial data, and related information.
• Service assigned accounts and broker relationships.
• Collaborate with Claims, Actuarial, Operations, Finance, Legal, and Compliance teams.
• Complete self-audits and support compliance with underwriting authority and sales practices.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field.
• 5 years of Health Insurance Underwriting experience.
• Alternatively, 3 years of experience with a master's degree.
• Ability to use underwriting software and guidelines to evaluate risk.
• Ability to meet new business, premium retention, and loss ratio targets.

Nice to have

• State Accident and Health Insurance license.
• Charter Healthcare Consultant (ChHC) certification.
• Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) certification.

Details

• Remote position in the United States.
• Target salary: $112,000–$140,000 annually.
• Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
