Overview
Hands-on automation engineer responsible for on-site commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and stabilization of FLS ECS, SCADA and PLC automation systems (Rockwell, Siemens, ABB) in live mining and mineral processing plants.
What you'll do
- Execute cold commissioning, including I/O loop checking, instrument calibration validation and signal verification from field to PLC/SCADA.
- Perform hot commissioning, including equipment-wise startup of motors, drives, feeders, screens and mills, and interlock validation and permissive checks.
- Commission FLS ECS (Expert Control System) and integrate it with plant PLCs; support first material flow and ramp-up to design capacity.
- Download, test and modify PLC programs on Rockwell (ControlLogix / CompactLogix), Siemens (S7 / TIA Portal) and ABB (AC800M / 800xA) platforms, and debug real-time issues such as incorrect interlocks, sequence failures and timing issues.
- Fine-tune control logic based on actual plant behaviour.
- Configure and validate SCADA systems (FLS ECS / ECS Control, WinCC, FactoryTalk, ABB 800xA), including graphics and operator screens, alarm systems and priorities, trends and data logging, and operator usability during live operation.
- Diagnose and resolve field issues with instruments (level, pressure, flow, vibration), signal noise or incorrect readings, and communication failures over Modbus, Profibus, Profinet and Ethernet/IP.
- Coordinate with electrical (MCC, drives), mechanical (equipment readiness) and process teams.
- Tune control loops (PID tuning under real load) and optimize sequences for smooth startup/shutdown and reduced trips and false alarms.
- Implement ECS logic improvements, including expert rules and interlock refinement.
- Ensure seamless communication between PLC, SCADA, ECS, drives and field devices; configure and troubleshoot OPC communication and industrial Ethernet network architecture.
- Support edge device integration where CMS or analytics are deployed.
- Update as-built logic, I/O lists and interlock documents; prepare commissioning reports covering test results, issue logs and modifications.
- Support handover to the operations team, including training.
What you'll need
- Strong hands-on experience in loop checking, commissioning sequences and live troubleshooting.
- Ability to read P&IDs, wiring diagrams and control logic.
- PLC programming and debugging in ladder, FBD and basic Structured Text.
- SCADA/ECS configuration and testing.
- Strong understanding of interlocks, permissives and trip logic.
- Hands-on troubleshooting of Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus/Profinet and Ethernet/IP, including basic network diagnostics.
- 5–12 years of experience in commissioning or site roles.
- Ability to work under pressure during startup and make quick decisions in plant conditions.
- Strong coordination with multiple teams.
- Willingness to travel, work shifts and perform shutdown work.
Nice to have
- Domain knowledge of mining and mineral processing plants and equipment such as crushers, mills, flotation cells, vibrating screens, thickeners, rotary kilns and filter presses.
- Understanding of real plant problems such as choking, overload, vibration and wear.
- Experience in EPC or OEM commissioning.
Details
- On-site work in plant environments, with exposure to dust, noise and industrial conditions.
- Long commissioning hours during startup.
- Travel, shift work and shutdown work are expected.
