Data Engineering Lead, VP

Overview

Lead the design, build, testing and implementation of data engineering solutions in a permanent feature team, and line manage a team of 5 Data Engineers. This is a vice president level role.

What you'll do

• Work in a permanent feature team to develop knowledge of the platform across business, applications, data and infrastructure.
• Liaise with principal engineers, domain architects and other key stakeholders to understand how the platform works and supports business objectives.
• Apply Agile methods to the development of data engineering solutions on the backlog.
• Produce resilient and long-lived solutions and act flexibly to cope with future needs.
• Deliver intentional architecture and formulate emergent design through innovative ideas, experimentation and prototyping.
• Design and develop solutions with a focus on automating build, test and deployment activities using executable patterns.
• Lead and line manage a team of 5 Data Engineers, aligning to data engineering best practices.

What you'll need

• Strong full stack experience in data engineering design and implementation, including exploiting programming languages to solve complex problems.
• Capability in complex requirements analysis, capture and validation against business and systems requirements.
• Leadership and people management skills.
• Experience of leading the implementation of best practice, especially around scalability, automation, virtualisation, optimisation, availability and performance.
• Strong proficiency in relational databases, advanced SQL, and robust data modelling and database optimisation.
• Strong proficiency in Python pipelines, Airflow orchestration, and dbt transformation.
• Experience designing, building, and operating cloud-based data solutions (Azure preferred).
• Extensive experience with scalable batch and streaming architectures using distributed data processing frameworks such as Spark and PySpark.
• Sound collaboration skills, working with business and data teams to produce pragmatic solutions.
• Experience of information security policies and data governance practices within the financial sector.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including explaining complex technical concepts simply.
• Experience of leading and line managing data engineers.
