Overview
Staff Data Scientist for Netflix’s internal Experimentation Platform (XP), responsible for experimentation across the company. You’ll set XP’s strategy and raise the rigor of causal inference standards used by data scientists running experiments.
What you'll do
- Help set the Experimentation Platform strategy, including UI design and user flows.
- Define how data scientists contribute metrics, reports, and templates to the platform.
- Verify XP allocates, logs, and processes data using valid causal inference methods, and shift verification to automated, recurring practice.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner bridging data science requirements to platform engineering implementation.
- Set and drive adoption of experimentation-at-scale standards (e.g., peeking, covariate adjustment, any-time valid methods, metric definitions, allocation mechanisms).
- Consolidate fragmented experimentation systems into a unified, maintainable platform and mentor team members.
What you'll need
- Advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- 8+ years experience with statistics/causal inference in an experimentation context, including designing experiments at scale.
- Track record setting standards or building tools adopted across multiple teams or the organization.
- Deep knowledge of experimentation pitfalls (e.g., false discovery rate, peeking, covariate adjustment, allocation-vs-analysis-unit mismatches).
- 5+ years experience with data science languages, ideally Python and SQL.
- Strong cross-functional communication to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to translate ambiguous data science pain points into a sequenced product roadmap for what a platform should build.
