Distinguished AI Engineer

Overview

Distinguished AI Engineer role focused on building responsible, reliable AI systems and delivering AI-powered products within Capital One.

What you'll do

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products for associates and customers.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training and LLM inference.
• Use Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch.
• Improve production LLM performance (scalability, cost, latency, throughput) using optimization techniques.
• Design automated monitoring, anomaly detection, and RCA for multi-turn and headless agentic applications.
• Coach and mentor engineers, author technical design documents, and represent Capital One at Tier1 AI conferences.

What you'll need

• At least 6 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies.
• At least 8 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
• High level passion for staying abreast of the latest AI research and applying novel techniques in production.
• Strong engineering and mathematics foundation, with expertise spanning hardware, software, and AI.
• Ability to lead and mentor multiple engineering teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders up to the VP level.
