Engineer - Target India

Overview

Engineer role on Target Technology Services, working with a Product Owner and team in a geographically distributed setup (Minneapolis and Bangalore) to build a high-performing, scalable product.

What you'll do

• Understand Target's business and technical environments and help teams resolve complex business challenges through technical solutions.
• Be a significant code contributor and manage the overall software development cycle, driving best practices and high-quality code.
• Advocate for technologies, frameworks, design patterns, processes and guiding values of the domain architecture, ensuring code adheres to platform, development and security standards.
• Stay current with new technology and assess its viability and applicability to Target's environments, identifying options, evaluating pros and cons, and determining total cost of ownership.
• Build and manage enterprise-scale legacy products.
• Lead development and operations in a geographically distributed team within a local site scrum team, leading technical decision making in line with Target platform architecture and enterprise decisions.
• Ensure adherence to architecture and development principles around open source, DevOps, Agile, containerization and infrastructure.
• Partner with product teams to build and deliver high-value products, iterating on ideas and continuing to innovate and incubate.
• Be a great team player, mentor team members and help build a team of high-caliber software development engineers.

What you'll need

• BS degree in computer science or equivalent.
• 3+ years of engineering (software development) experience.
• Experience with at least one full-cycle implementation from requirement to production.
• Experience building or implementing high-performance and scalable server-side applications.
• Experience operating medium to large scale systems.
• Experience with test-driven development and software test automation.
• Strong sense of ownership.
• Passion for emerging technologies and a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences.

Nice to have

• Ability to design and write clean, maintainable code, using some or all of the languages and frameworks the team uses.
• Strong knowledge and coding experience in Java, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, and microservices development using REST frameworks.
• Good to have: coding experience in Groovy/Grails, React JS and other front-end development technologies.
• Value a culture of continuous learning, improvement and experimentation.
• Implement modern engineering practices to ensure product quality (e.g., test-driven development, test automation, CI/CD practices).
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative agile environment.
• Ability to design and build for cloud platforms, including leveraging microservices and containers.

• Provide mentorship and technical leadership for project teams and peers.
