Engineering Lead, AI Email App

Overview

Lead the engineering layer for an AI email application, shaping architecture across backend services, APIs, mobile, and desktop clients. This hands-on role leads a small team of senior engineers while making key decisions on reliability, scalability, and product delivery.

What you'll do

• Own application engineering strategy and execution across backend, mobile, and desktop.
• Design reliable AI-powered workflows with state, orchestration, retries, fallbacks, and failure handling.
• Build APIs and abstractions connecting AI systems to product experiences.
• Lead a small senior engineering team through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship.
• Balance latency, reliability, cost, security, and user experience.
• Establish observability, monitoring, testing, and operational foundations.
• Partner with ML leadership to ship robust product experiences.

What you'll need

• Significant experience leading application or product engineering for complex systems.
• Strong hands-on experience building and shipping production backend systems.
• Experience building AI-powered products or systems using modern ML or LLM capabilities.
• Strong technical judgment when making decisions with incomplete information.
• Deep expertise in at least one backend or client platform.
• High standards for code quality, reliability, and engineering fundamentals.
