Engineering Manager - Ads & Mar Tech

Overview

Lead a software engineering team in Bengaluru as a hands-on Engineering Manager, splitting time roughly half and half between shipping production code and managing people, process and technical direction.

What you'll do

• Lead, mentor and coach frontend and backend software engineers to grow their professional and technical capabilities.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, high-trust team environment that encourages innovation, ownership and continuous learning.
• Participate in recruitment and hiring to attract top engineering talent.
• Make architectural decisions for frontend (ReactJS, Node.js) and backend (Java, Node.js, distributed systems) components.
• Work closely with Staff Engineers to define technical roadmaps and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Guide the team on AI engineering practices, including effective use of agentic tools and building systems that incorporate AI thoughtfully.
• Pair with the team and review AI-generated code critically in an AI-assisted workflow.
• Hold the team to coding standards, quality metrics and security practices across all deliverables.
• Stay current with the team's stack, including ReactJS, Node.js, Java/Spring Boot, relational and NoSQL databases, cloud platforms and CI/CD pipelines.
• Contribute directly to production features.
• Oversee end-to-end delivery of features and projects, from planning and estimation through execution, testing and deployment.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX/UI Designers and other cross-functional stakeholders to translate product requirements into engineering plans.
• Ensure efficient Agile/Scrum execution and manage project risks and dependencies.
• Champion a strong quality mindset, working with the Senior Quality Engineer on testing strategies and automation.
• Contribute to the broader engineering strategy and technical vision, and identify process improvements, automation and innovation.
• Serve as a liaison between the engineering team and other departments, and drive cross-team collaboration and knowledge sharing.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering.
• At least 3+ years in a technical leadership or engineering management role.
• Deep understanding of ReactJS, modern JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript and related state management libraries.
• Expertise in building scalable distributed systems using Java/J2EE (Spring Boot preferred) and/or Node.js.
• Experience with relational (e.g., Oracle) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Proficiency with RESTful and/or GraphQL API design and consumption.
• Strong understanding of software quality principles, test automation strategies (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience designing and architecting highly scalable, performant and resilient web applications and services.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Demonstrated experience leading teams in an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor and grow engineering teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and decision-making ability in complex technical and organizational situations.
• Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar) in real production work.
• Hands-on experience shipping React and modern JavaScript to production.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience in a high-growth or startup environment.
• Familiarity with micro-frontend architectures.
• Knowledge of performance optimization for large-scale web applications.
• Experience with spec-driven development frameworks such as GitHub SpecKit, SuperPower, GSD, or similar.
