Engineering Manager (Data Engineering)

Overview

Engineering Manager leading the Data Products team responsible for domain-aligned ETL pipelines and curated datasets. The role owns delivery, reliability, modeling standards, costs, and partnerships with Analytics, Marketing, and Product.

What you'll do

• Lead, hire, coach, and develop a team of data engineers.
• Own dataset ingestion, transformation, modeling, publication, documentation, and deprecation.
• Manage ETL roadmaps, prioritization, commitments, and delivery across stakeholders.
• Set standards for data modeling, testing, documentation, code review, and observability.
• Manage dataset SLAs, on-call operations, incident response, and pipeline costs.
• Partner with Data Platform to drive self-serve tooling and platform capabilities.
• Translate business requirements into reliable data products and manage trade-offs.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering.
• 3+ years of direct experience managing engineers.
• Production experience with SQL, Python, Spark, and large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Expertise in dimensional modeling and incremental, idempotent transformations.
• Experience owning business-critical datasets, freshness, correctness, and SLAs.
• Experience with a cloud warehouse and workflow orchestrator such as Airflow.
• Experience delivering multi-quarter roadmaps and developing strong engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with dbt and reusable modeling frameworks.
• Experience with data quality and observability tools.
• Familiarity with data mesh, data contracts, Kafka, CDC, lakehouses, or open table formats.
• Experience with BI or semantic layers such as Looker.
• Experience with AWS and pipeline cost management.
