Overview
Engineering Manager for Anthropic’s Research Data Platform, leading the technical direction and delivery of platform components and core datasets researchers use to produce, query, and trust data.
What you'll do
- Work with researchers and their engineers to understand workflows and find high-leverage opportunities.
- Set technical direction for the platform components and datasets the team builds.
- Design and build reusable platform components (e.g., metrics libraries, services, interfaces).
- Own core datasets end to end, including pipelines, schemas, documentation, and guarantees.
- Drive convergence on canonical, well-documented datasets (starting with RL transcript core data model).
- Lead complex multi-quarter projects across systems and teams while staying hands-on in code.
- Raise the technical bar via design reviews, mentorship, and high-quality execution.
What you'll need
- Built and operated data-intensive systems at scale such as pipelines, storage layers, and query systems.
- Strong instincts for data modeling and schema design that hold up as usage grows.
- Experience setting technical direction or owning architecture of a data platform used by other teams.
- Customer-minded discovery and iteration with internal users, measuring success by adoption.
- Ability to lead through influence by aligning engineers and stakeholders without formal authority.
- Results-oriented and pragmatic approach, willing to do unglamorous high-leverage work.
- Optional/covered: A working knowledge of machine learning and/or prior work with an ML research lab.
Details
- Location-based hybrid policy: expected to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time.
