Engineering Manager - Verification

Overview

Engineering Manager for Verification leading the squad responsible for identity checks across SumUp markets.

What you'll do

• Lead the Verification Squad by removing bottlenecks and managing cross-team dependencies.
• Partner with Product, Compliance, and Operations to translate cross-market KYC/KYB needs into engineering outcomes.
• Drive technical and organizational improvements to reduce legacy overhead and improve tooling.
• Shape roadmap priorities with the PM and account for compliance requirements and AI-influenced features.
• Maintain standards for verification systems, including observability, failure control, and auditability for AI components.
• Develop engineers via regular 1:1s, direct feedback, and stretch opportunities.

What you'll need

• Proven track record leading engineering teams through technical transformation, including migrations and legacy modernization.
• Strong backend technical depth, particularly Go and API/integration architecture.
• Hands-on experience with observability, CI/CD, and testing practices.
• Experience or appetite to learn about KYC/KYB regulatory environments.
• Understanding of how eIDAS frameworks interact with product and engineering decisions.
• Ability to communicate clearly across technical and non-technical audiences.
• People leadership experience developing high performers and addressing underperformance fairly.
