Overview
Manage end-to-end Expense Accounting and reporting activities from the Global Finance Centre. Partner with the Global Process Owner to improve processes and controls, automate processes, and deliver transformation and re-engineering projects.
What you'll do
- Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to verify that entries have been created and posted, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and reporting integrity.
- Prepare and review accrual workings and post journal entries to record accrued expenses in the correct period.
- Amortize prepaid expenses and fixed assets while maintaining schedules that tie to the balance sheet.
- Ensure an accurate and timely period-end close by recording all transactions, posting journal entries, reconciling accounts where needed, and consolidating at the required level.
- Manage time to assist with ad-hoc projects and new transactions supporting the GAO Accounting group.
- Serve as the first point of contact for assigned accounts and ensure compliance requirements are adhered to.
- Reconcile bank, prepaid, and accrual accounts against supporting documentation and facilitate entries when required.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on a particular accounting transaction when required.
- Support queries from regulatory authorities and external auditors.
- Work with and support the team in day-to-day activities, including issues requiring judgement and expertise.
- Ensure standard operating procedures are updated with the most recent procedure.
- Participate in and contribute to re-engineering, automation, and other ERP implementation initiatives.
- Support overall team goals and objectives.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or master's degree in finance or an MBA.
- Accounting qualification: ACA, ACCA, CPA, or CIMA.
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in Accounting Operations or Controllers in Record to Report.
- Experience working in Controllership or Accounting teams in a Shared Services environment.
- Extensive practical experience and knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards.
- Experience building and maintaining a strong control environment, including risk excellence, SOX, and RCSA controls.
- Experience establishing procedures and strong internal controls.
- Experience implementing accounting technology, including Oracle and SAP, in a major institution.
- Hands-on experience creating and maintaining a strong control environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite: Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and Excel workbook maintenance best practices.
- Knowledge of Essbase and Oracle Financials.
- Conceptual understanding of company-wide financial architecture, including GL, sub-GL technology, and specialized tools applicable to the process groups.
- Self-motivated, self-assured, and self-managed.
- Strong analytical ability to analyze and summarize complex financial transactions.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Good knowledge of accounting concepts related to Profit and Loss Account and Balance Sheet.
- Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly organized, with the ability to multitask and work under high-pressure deadlines.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of Spotfire, Tableau, data analytics, Macros, and visualization, or similar.
