Overview
The Junior BI Operations Engineer supports 24x7 Enterprise BI operations, including monitoring ETL/ELT pipelines, handling incidents, and maintaining operational runbooks. This role is part of a shift-based global BI operations rotation and assists with automation using scripting and AI-assisted workflows.
What you'll do
- Assist in daily 24x7 monitoring and operational reporting for ETL/ELT data pipelines and BI systems.
- Provide 1st-level (L1) incident support by investigating, triaging, and resolving basic alerts or job failures.
- Prepare and maintain job scheduling modules and update runbooks with runtime statistics and operational steps.
- Participate in knowledge transfer (KT) sessions for handovers to the ops environment.
- Support automation of routine operational checks using Python and Shell scripting with GitHub version control practices.
- Use AI/LLM tools for log analysis, query optimization, bug fixing, and process documentation.
- Communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical business users in verbal and written form.
What you'll need
- 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in BI, Data Operations, L1/L2 Support, or Data Engineering.
- Foundational working knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, and relational database concepts.
- Basic understanding of data warehousing concepts such as dimensional modeling, staging, and star schema.
- Hands-on experience or working knowledge of Python and Unix/Linux Shell scripting for automation tasks.
- Familiarity with GitHub or Git workflows for code repository management and version tracking.
- Basic knowledge or practical exposure to AI & LLM tools for tasks like code debugging and log pattern detection.
- Exposure to cloud data platforms such as Snowflake DB.
- Exposure to ETL tools (e.g., Pentaho Data Integration, Talend, Informatica) and job schedulers (e.g., Airflow, Control-M, Autosys).
