Lead Cost Control Engineer

Overview

Lead cost control activities within the Project Controls team, providing insights and recommendations to support project execution and maximise value. The role focuses on schedule and cost management processes for delivering projects on time and within budget.

What you'll do

• Maintain project cost-to-complete budgets in alignment with the as-sold position and budget holders, consistently with actual progress and trends.
• Support forecast estimation and verify the accuracy of actual-to-date material, labor, manufactured, supplier invoice, timesheet and travel expense costs.
• Drive and challenge budget at completion using earned value, productivity, cost ratio and market trend analysis.
• Validate the accuracy of estimates.
• Develop mitigation and catch-up plans with functional leaders and the Project Manager.
• Align with the project team and time schedule to capture forecasted cost risks accurately and time-phase costs.
• Check and control cost movements against current scope, progress and previous forecasts.
• Communicate cost status, forecasts and risks to budget holders and drive or support risk mitigation and cost-out activities.
• Present financial data transparently and attend project and management reviews to present cost status, budget deviations and root causes.
• Align with the Finance Controller to reconcile approved project financial data with the books.
• Align with the planner to ensure costs and schedules are aligned, providing time-phased cost forecasts for sales pacing.
• Report cost movement root causes impacting sales targets.
• Support disputes and claims analysis.

What you'll need

• A degree in engineering with financial awareness, or a degree in finance with a good understanding of scope content on HV substations.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in cost controls, project controls or project management on large and complex or turnkey infrastructure projects.
• Experience in risk management processes and tools.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of ERP systems, with SAP preferred.
• Experience managing small teams within a large project.
• Project planning experience and good P6 planning software understanding.
