Job description

Overview

Lead boiler process engineering activities for Steam Power service, retrofit, renovation and modernization (R&M), and new product introduction (NPI) programs, supporting thermal performance, steam-water cycle integration, emissions-related modifications and fleet support initiatives.

What you'll do

  • Lead boiler process engineering activities related to thermal system analysis, boiler performance, steam-water cycle integration, and process optimization for service, retrofit, renovation and modernization (R&M), and NPI programs.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables such as process calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, process descriptions, operating philosophies, performance evaluations, and related technical documentation.
  • Analyze customer enquiries, tender documents, operating data, and technical specifications to support development of technically compliant and competitive solutions.
  • Support customer application engineering, including technical inputs for bids and proposals, compliance matrices, customer submittals, process schemes, technical deviations, assumptions, scope clarifications, and feasibility evaluations.
  • Participate in technical discussions with customers and internal stakeholders to explain proposed solutions, engineering assumptions, and application feasibility.
  • Contribute to opportunity assessment for boiler upgrade and retrofit packages, including emissions-related modifications and performance improvement solutions.
  • Coordinate with commercial, sourcing, execution, controls and instrumentation, mechanical, and project engineering teams to develop optimized and competitive technical solutions.
  • Identify and document technical deviations, assumptions, issues, and risks within assigned scope, and escalate complex concerns to senior engineers or technical leaders, as appropriate.
  • Work closely with global engineering teams, regional stakeholders, and subject matter experts to align technical solutions with customer requirements, fleet needs, and business objectives.
  • Participate in technical risk assessment reviews to identify design, performance, operability, reliability, maintainability, and execution risks associated with proposed boiler solutions.
  • Support assigned inquiry-to-order (ITO) and project execution activities by preparing engineering inputs, completing deliverables on time, and closing assigned actions.
  • Ensure high-quality and consistent engineering output related to performance calculations, thermal assessments, design reviews, optimization studies, and technical evaluations.
  • Support NPI activities through evaluation of new or modified process concepts, product features, design changes, and engineering validation requirements.
  • Contribute to technical excellence through design reviews, technical reviews, constructability reviews, lessons learned implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to team knowledge sharing and continue building technical capability in boiler process engineering methods, tools, and standards.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable standards, customer requirements, product requirements, and business processes, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC).
  • Contribute to functional initiatives and metrics related to Life Saving Rules, Product Safety embedded in design, On-Time Delivery, Right First Time, Kaizen, productivity, cost-out, quality, and Lean Six Sigma.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited university or college.
  • Relevant experience in boiler engineering, process engineering, thermal engineering, performance engineering, or steam power plant applications.
  • Strong knowledge of boiler systems, combustion, heat transfer, thermal performance, pressure parts, and steam generation process.
  • Relevant experience in process engineering for service, retrofit, renovation and modernization (R&M), customer application engineering, or related thermal power projects.
  • Sound technical knowledge of boiler performance, thermodynamics, heat and mass balance, combustion-related process considerations, and steam power plant systems.
  • Experience preparing process engineering deliverables and technical documentation for boiler or thermal power applications.
  • Familiarity with engineering tools, methods, and systems relevant to process engineering and power plant applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering assumptions and support resolution of technical issues within assigned scope.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and document technical risks and escalate issues within assigned scope with appropriate urgency and discipline.
  • Ability to work to committed timelines while maintaining safety, quality, and engineering integrity.
  • Willingness to travel to sites and flexibility to support business requirements, as needed.

Nice to have

  • Experience with utility boilers, including subcritical and supercritical units.
  • Knowledge of emissions reduction, combustion improvement, and fuel flexibility solutions.
  • Familiarity with cross-functional proposal and service engineering workflows.
  • Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with NPI, product change management, validation support, or technology implementation in an engineering environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across functions, regions, and engineering disciplines.
  • Awareness of technical risk assessment methods in engineering and proposal development.
  • Experience working with global teams across functions and regions.
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities and work effectively in a matrix organization.
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong ownership and technical rigor.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted productivity tools for technical documentation and analysis.
