Job description

Overview

Lead Systems Programmer providing technical and systems support for Mainframe MQ and WebSphere Application Server (WAS) systems, with a primary focus on WAS administration, engineering, migration, performance optimization, security implementation, platform modernization, and production support.

What you'll do

  • Ensure the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS platform remains stable, secure, performant, and available for business-critical applications.
  • Maintain middleware reliability and enable application delivery across development, test, and production environments.
  • Host and deploy applications and manage application deployment lifecycles.
  • Optimize performance and resolve incidents and problems.
  • Support security, compliance, operational excellence, and automation activities.
  • Work with MQ, CICS, DB2, z/OS System Programming, and Application teams on mainframe integration and enterprise support.
  • Support Compute Grid augmentation into Cell Compute Grid configuration and operations.
  • Administer ZFS.
  • Write scripts for deployments.
  • Build and configure ZRES.
  • Maintain stable operation of MQ Queue Managers and Queue Sharing Groups (QSGs).
  • Prevent message loss, duplication, and delivery disruptions.
  • Support business-critical transactions that depend on MQ messaging.
  • Administer Queue Sharing Groups and Shared Queues for continuous service availability.
  • Support disaster recovery, failover, and resilience testing activities.
  • Diagnose and resolve MQ failures impacting business applications.
  • Investigate channel outages, queue build-ups, triggering issues, and connectivity failures.
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents.
  • Collaborate with application, z/OS, network, and distributed MQ teams during critical incidents.
  • Assist application teams in implementing reliable messaging solutions.
  • Contribute to modernization initiatives leveraging MQ as an enterprise integration backbone.
  • Install, maintain, and provide 24X7 support for MQ z/OS and other related products.
  • Maintain infrastructure uptime through structured software, distribution, and patch management mechanisms.

What you'll need

  • 7-8 years of IT experience.
  • Graduate.
  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of WebSphere Application Server for z/OS.
  • Understanding of WAS z/OS architecture.
  • IBM MQ Queue Manager administration on z/OS.
  • Understanding of Queue Sharing Group architecture.
  • Shared Queue administration.
  • Coupling Facility concepts.
  • Shared Queue recovery procedures.
  • Group Queue Manager administration.
  • Queue and channel administration using MQ panels and commands.
  • Work knowledge of an MQ monitoring tool such as the CA Sysview product.
  • Working knowledge of MQ clusters/channels and experience in a sysplex environment.

Nice to have

  • Vendor coordination.
  • Knowledge of network basics.
  • Good knowledge of mainframe operating system components and tools.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery methodologies.
