Overview
Lead the HVDC Controls & Protection Verification and Validation team, delivering V&V activities on time against the project schedule and providing technical leadership across work packages.
What you'll do
- Prepare and maintain Validation & Verification team activity plans as per the project schedule.
- Design and create Factory System Test (FST) cases and review results against design requirements, including leading Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with clients.
- Develop HVDC system and plant models in electromagnetic transient tools such as PSCAD, RSCAD and EMTP-RV, including dynamic performance studies and protection co-ordination.
- Prepare control system requirements for the RTDS Lab setup, including AC/DC interface requirements, Plant Emulator Interface requirements, and RSCAD power system network conversion, modelling and verification.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) to develop existing and new products and tools.
- Provide support to Commissioning Engineers during dynamic commissioning at site.
- Support continual improvement by introducing tools, methods and process improvements, coordinating with Continuous Improvement leaders.
- Maintain rigorous end-to-end requirement traceability, verifying every design change against system architecture and validating it via documented test evidence.
- Drive continuous improvement in the V&V lifecycle, increasing test coverage and decreasing the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for V&V engineers.
- Investigate complex technical anomalies by correlating event logs, signal traces and control states to identify and implement corrective actions under high-pressure delivery timelines.
- Provide technical guidance to junior V&V engineers, fostering a "Quality First" culture and promoting best practices in test plan preparation and documentation.
- Coordinate communication between cross-functional teams (Controls, Software, Hardware and Commissioning) to resolve integration bottlenecks and maintain project velocity.
What you'll need

- Significant experience as a Verification Engineer in the High Voltage field, with experience as a Control & Protection design Engineer.
- Good knowledge of overall 400kV substation and HVDC systems (LCC/VSC/SVC), including control and protection systems.
- Experience developing and working with PSCAD and RSCAD models, including knowledge of overall HVDC system operational behaviour.
- Experience in defining test strategy, root-cause analysis (RCA), cross-functional stakeholder management and mentorship.
- Experience in technical leadership with ability to manage a team of validation engineers.
- Strong communication skills with fluency in English.
- Willingness to travel to support projects globally and readiness to work flexible hours.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical standards such as IEC 61850, IEC 62351, IEC 12207, IEEE 15288, IEC 25010, IEC 27032 and NERC/CIP.
