Life Sciences Counsel

Overview

Serve as Anthropic’s first dedicated Life Sciences Counsel, embedded with life sciences research teams to advise on complex research, development, and commercial legal matters and risks.

What you'll do

• Advise life science research teams on complex research, development, and commercial matters globally.
• Drive high deal volume with life science and biopharma counterparties across a range of agreement types.
• Identify, analyze, and proactively manage life science regulatory risks with the broader Legal department.
• Design and implement scalable guidance and processes for fast-growing life science efforts.
• Anticipate emerging legal developments affecting AI technologies in life science and biopharma and brief leadership.
• Collaborate across the broader legal department to support this strategic initiative.

What you'll need

• J.D. and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California or New York preferred).
• Fluency in the life sciences industry, including drug development and the structure of research organizations.
• Working knowledge of life sciences regulatory environment for tools deployed (GxP, clinical and health data regulations, human-subjects research, FDA processes).
• Deep experience negotiating and drafting complex IP allocation issues in multi-party research arrangements.
• Excellent communication skills to translate legal risk into practical guidance for scientists, researchers, and business partners.
• Experience scoping and managing outside counsel across specialties (FDA/regulatory, IP, privacy, export control).

Details

• Hybrid expectation: in one of the New York offices at least 25% of the time and at least 3 days a week (role-based).
• Visa sponsorship is available, with reasonable efforts if an offer is made.
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
