Mainframe Storage Administrator

Overview

Kyndryl is seeking a Mainframe Storage Administrator to manage and support storage operations across production mainframe environments, working with some of the company's largest clients.

What you'll do

• Participate in daily operational and project-related calls.
• Troubleshoot and resolve CA-1 related issues, including support for CA-1 upgrade activities.
• Address and remediate STOPX37 issues related to recent z/OS 8.1 maintenance updates.
• Perform daily storage health checks to ensure system stability and availability.
• Monitor critical spool space utilization and take proactive actions when required.
• Conduct catalog monitoring and resolve catalog-related issues.
• Monitor HSM activities, perform reorganization (REORG) tasks, and resolve associated issues.
• Handle snapshot change activities and ensure successful implementation.
• Provide storage support during IPL activities and system maintenance windows.
• Investigate and resolve storage-related job abends.
• Validate and review storage reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Perform regular storage audits and maintain operational standards.
• Follow up with the Resiliency team on hardware-related circuit issues, including CHPID-related concerns.
• Coordinate with the Zcloud team and support reverse replication activities.
• Implement and maintain ACS routine changes to support storage management requirements.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of experience in mainframe storage administration.
• Experience with DASD and tape data storage solutions, including DASD/Tape configuration and migration for mainframes.
• Working knowledge of z/OS operating system, z/OS (MVS) fundamentals, storage fundamentals and storage devices.
• Good knowledge of TSO, ISPF, JCL, VSAM, ISMF, JES2, catalogs, datasets (PS/PDS/PDSE/GDG), REXX, SAS, SDSF and spool.
• Good knowledge and experience in MF Tape and DASD management, including DFSMS, DFSMSHSM, DFSMSDSS, DFSMSDFP, DFSMSRMM, ICF Catalog, VSAM, IDCAMs, CA products (CA Disk, CA Allocate and CA-1), FDR products, Omegamon XE or related storage monitoring tools, ICKDSF, space abends, and SMF/DCOLLECT/BVIR reports.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Technical support for a production mainframe environment of multiple LPARs, CECs, DASD and VTS controllers.
• Experience in storage box data migration (DASD to DASD and tape to tape) and storage replication.
