Overview
Manager, Engineering – Payments leads a Payments engineering team building backend systems for cross-border settlement and payments operations.
What you'll do
- Lead day-to-day execution for engineering planning, prioritization, delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical and architectural direction for payment orchestration, ledger/reconciliation, and bank/PSP integrations.
- Partner with Product, Compliance, Risk, and Solutions Engineering to define roadmaps and deliver cross-border payouts and bulk payment capabilities.
- Own engineering delivery for key Payments initiatives, coordinating across India- and US-based teams.
- Ensure reliability, security, operational readiness, and financial correctness of payment-critical systems, including incident response/on-call.
- Recruit, coach, and develop engineers; own performance management, career development, and promotion processes.
What you'll need
- 7+ years of software engineering experience.
- 2+ years managing or formally leading software engineering teams.
- Experience designing/building/operating distributed, highly available backend systems in production.
- Experience building or operating payments/banking/financial transaction systems (e.g., orchestration, ledgers, reconciliation, settlement).
- Hands-on technical leadership (architecture reviews, system design, trade-off discussions, code-level guidance).
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages: Java, Go, or Kotlin.
- Experience recruiting/coaching/developing/performance-managing engineers.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with Product/Compliance/Risk and external financial partners.
