Manager I, Engineering - Change Experience Platform

Overview

Manager I, Engineering will lead a team building the Change Experience Platform’s internal UI/CLI frameworks and workflows to understand, route, and safely manage infrastructure changes.

What you'll do

• Lead and grow a small team of engineers for internal platforms and product experiences used across Datadog engineering.
• Define what “good” looks like for internal developer-facing platforms (usability, reliability, documentation, adoption, and supportability).
• Set technical direction across UI frameworks, CLI tooling, notification platforms, subscription models, and infrastructure governance workflows.
• Write code or troubleshoot issues to unblock the team and stay close to team code.
• Lead performance management and career development for engineers.
• Own relationships with engineering teams and major stakeholders to prioritize impact toward the team’s north star.
• Run OKR processes to align quarterly goals with business and platform needs.

What you'll need

• Experience managing engineers working on internal platforms, developer tooling, infrastructure tooling, product platforms, or similar systems.
• Strong technical judgment across distributed systems, internal tools, APIs, data models, and user-facing engineering workflows.
• Understanding that internal platforms succeed through adoption, trust, reliability, and clear user experience.
• Experience working directly with engineering customers, platform teams, or infrastructure teams to improve workflows.
• Significant backend experience in one or more of Go, Python, Java, or similar languages.
• Experience with data stores including PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Redis, or ElasticSearch.
• Enough frontend or product-surface fluency to guide teams building internal UIs and workflow tools.
