Overview
Engineering Manager to lead the Semantic Layer team in Bengaluru and oversee health, delivery, and growth behind MetricFlow.
What you'll do
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers building MetricFlow.
- Own delivery for the Semantic Layer team, including planning, prioritization, execution, and shipping.
- Set technical direction with senior and staff engineers across metric definitions, query compilation, dimensional modeling, and SQL generation.
- Steward MetricFlow as an open-source project, including triage, external PR reviews, and releases.
- Collaborate with engineering leaders to ensure MetricFlow integrates with the dbt ecosystem.
- Translate customer and community feedback into a clear, sequenced roadmap with product, design, and developer-relations counterparts.
- Drive engineering excellence for performance, reliability, and observability of metric query execution at scale.
What you'll need
- Experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Built and shipped production software and can discuss architecture and technical tradeoffs.
- SQL fundamentals and familiarity with how analytical query engines and data warehouses execute queries.
- Understanding of systems involving parsing, compilation, or transformation.
- Knowledge of software design principles such as clean APIs, modularity, testability, and backwards compatibility.
- Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and community audiences.
- Experience leading in a distributed, asynchronous team environment.
Nice to have
- Experience leading or contributing to a popular open-source project with external contributors.
- Familiarity with dbt, MetricFlow, LookML, Cube, or other semantic-layer technologies.
- Background in data warehousing internals, query optimization, or analytical SQL dialects.
- Experience with CI/CD, GitHub Actions, and release engineering for Python libraries.
- Exposure to building developer-facing APIs, SDKs, or CLIs.
