Overview
Lead assigned product development projects through mechanical design, engineering analysis, validation and cross-functional collaboration for liquid-cooled home standby generator systems.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, validate and support the release of new products, systems and component technologies for liquid-cooled home standby generators, from concept through production release.
- Define functional requirements and develop optimized engineering solutions through the design, integration, testing and evaluation of components and systems, including assessment of performance, cost, reliability, risk and safety.
- Plan, execute and evaluate fit-for-use testing and validation activities, and support development of product specifications, validation plans, material specifications and bills of materials.
- Use CAD and CAE tools to develop and analyze designs, create detailed engineering drawings and models, and assess mechanical system performance and improvement opportunities.
- Partner cross-functionally with manufacturing, suppliers, designers and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability and help achieve project targets for performance, cost, schedule and design requirements.
- Develop risk assessments and DFMEA/FMEA documentation and provide recommendations during engineering design reviews.
- Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting and validation activities, and drive corrective actions to meet functional, performance and safety requirements.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues, collaborate with cross-functional teams on root cause analysis, and escalate high-risk or high-impact issues to engineering leadership.
- Travel to Generac facilities, suppliers or test locations as required, including domestic and limited international travel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you'll need
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from an All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved institution.
- 6+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in product design and development.
- Experience developing component- and system-level test plans, test procedures and test reports.
- Strong knowledge of design documentation, layout, prototype verification testing and engineering calculations.
- Experience performing mechanical analysis, simulation and thermal analysis.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling tools such as Creo or SolidWorks.
- Experience creating, checking and approving engineering drawings, GD&T and mechanical design fundamentals.
- Strong knowledge of common manufacturing processes such as sheet metal, castings, plastics, machining and welding.
Nice to have
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience with internal combustion engines, generators or related engine-driven products.
- Ability to manage detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy while supporting multiple projects and priorities.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information to technical and non-technical audiences, including leadership.
- Experience with DFMEA, design reviews and structured problem-solving methods.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
- Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional global teams.
- Experience with engineering change processes, BOM management and drawing release.
- Demonstrated ability to apply engineering knowledge to improve products, processes and technical solutions.
