What you'll do
- Design complex components and assemblies with a focus on Quality, Cost and DFM.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and process enhancements, including using automation and AI tools.
- Fabricate physical prototypes for proof of concept and testing.
- Perform mechanical and structural analysis as needed (FEA using SolidWorks).
- Present mechanical design concepts to project teams.
- Evaluate new components, materials and manufacturing methods for new and existing products.
- Verify acceptance criteria are met, support transition to production, and perform failure analysis on problem areas.
- Document features, issues and tests in compliance with internal processes.
- Derive configured product models from existing products.
- Perform Engineering Change Requests involving updates to drawings and BOMs.
- Ensure designs meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct design reviews, assist in FMEA and PFMEA, and support root cause analysis for mechanical issues.
- Create 3D models, detailed mechanical drawings, BOMs, electro-mechanical parts and gauges.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
- 5-7 years or more of experience as a design engineer.
- Extensive experience developing 3D CAD designs for parts and test fixtures using Creo, SolidWorks or similar design platforms.
- Good grasp of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing standards and best practices.
- Ability to operate machine tools to touch up prototype parts, adding details, threading, polishing and other operations to finish parts before building and testing.
- Experience in designs consisting of electro-mechanical and optical integration.
