MTS-1, Site Reliability Engineer

Overview

MTS-1, Site Reliability Engineer in eBay’s Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. The role focuses on building and operating reliable systems and improving monitoring, incident management, and reliability tools.

What you'll do

• Continuously monitor the health of critical services to identify and address issues early.
• Collaborate with architecture, engineering, and operations teams to deliver solutions for high availability and reliability.
• Resolve recurring technical issues, onboard new alerts, and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Build and improve monitoring tools to mitigate site incidents and support reliability audits and tests.
• Act as Incident Commander to drive major incident resolution and manage alarms and communications.

What you'll need

• 6+ years of professional experience in software engineering (ideally backend or platform teams).
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Go, or Python.
• Strong incident management and leadership skills, including technical triage and troubleshooting during crises.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, container orchestration such as Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Experience with observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and OpenTelemetry.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for fast-paced environments.
