Overview
Power Systems Engineer (EMT Studies) to perform electromagnetic transient (EMT) modelling and grid-integration studies, including HVDC and inverter-based resources.
What you'll do
- Perform EMT studies using PSCAD for HVDC, renewable generation, and BESS.
- Develop, adapt, validate, and troubleshoot detailed EMT models (controls, protection, network equivalents).
- Assess converter performance under weak-grid conditions, faults, switching, energisation, and recovery.
- Validate EMT models against manufacturer documentation, test reports, or engineering expectations.
- Investigate numerical convergence issues, control interactions, oscillations, and unexpected EMT simulation behavior.
- Deliver assigned EMT study tasks with technical guidance from senior engineers and coordinate with internal teams.
- Prepare technical reports and present findings internally and in client discussions when required.
What you'll need
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering (Power Systems or related field).
- Typically 3–8 years of experience in power system studies.
- Practical experience performing EMT studies using PSCAD.
- Strong practical knowledge of PSCAD for model development, simulation setup, debugging, and post-processing.
- Good understanding of power electronic converters and electromagnetic transient phenomena.
- Ability to build/adapt EMT models, analyze results, and identify system issues.
- Strong analytical skills to investigate technical issues and develop engineering solutions.
