Principal Architect, Professional Services R&D

Overview

Principal technical leader for Okta’s Professional Services R&D team, owning high-level architecture and technical strategy for reusable assets.

What you'll do

• Own end-to-end technical architecture for all reusable assets and solutions.
• Set architectural standards, patterns, and best practices for the development team.
• Select technologies, frameworks, and platforms to meet requirements and long-term goals.
• Lead design reviews and ensure alignment with architecture and security standards.
• Mentor engineers and the Development Manager on complex technical and architectural topics.
• Collaborate with Product Management on technical feasibility and R&D roadmap inputs.
• Prototype and spike new technologies to de-risk projects and drive innovation.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• At least 3+ years in a technical leadership or architect role.
• Expert-level knowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, and distributed systems.
• Experience designing and building applications using Java, Python, Node.js, and C#/.NET, plus React.
• Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native solutions.
• Security best practices and identity concepts knowledge (IAM, OAuth, SAML).
• Strong communication and influencing skills to explain complex technical concepts.
