Principal Data Scientist

Overview

Principal Data Scientist role in HP's Data & Information Technology function, focused on bringing cutting-edge data, AI and machine learning approaches to complex business problems and future business strategy.

What you'll do

• Define and implement AI solutions to create business value and innovation.
• Work with Data Science leaders to develop new innovative solutions to existing or new business challenges.
• Develop clear presentations for business stakeholders and managers.
• Manage relationships with business partners to evaluate and foster data-driven innovation, and provide domain-specific expertise in cross-organization projects and initiatives.
• Lead an organization-wide team or teams of other data science professionals in complex projects.
• Provide guidance, training and mentoring to less experienced staff members.

What you'll need

• Master's or Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Computer Science, or equivalent.
• 10+ years of work experience, preferably in data analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, AI or a related field.
• Proficiency in Python, PySpark and SQL programming.
• Expertise in Databricks: ability to design, develop and optimize workflows in Azure Databricks for data processing and feature engineering.
• Understanding of NLP and GenAI concepts: familiarity with Large Language Models, prompt engineering for LLMs, vector databases, and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems.
• Experience in applied statistics and algorithms, including predictive modelling and A/B test design.
• Ability to effectively communicate data insights and negotiate options at senior management levels.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English.
• Experience deploying industry-grade setups from development to production grade.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and observability (monitoring).
