Overview
Lead the design, development and qualification of high power electronics for motor controllers within the Advanced Structures Electronic Controllers team, acting as a specialist/SME in high power electronics product development.
What you'll do
- Own and drive hardware architecture, component selection, and topology for motor drives and inverter stages, optimized for power density, efficiency, weight and multi-lane fault tolerance.
- Architect and validate designs to clear stringent DO-160 emissions and susceptibility limits.
- Create detailed electrical schematics and develop detailed design description documents.
- Define test strategies and oversee execution for board bring-up, Design Verification Testing (DVT), and motor dynamometer test-bench validation.
- Lead critical design reviews, mentor hardware design engineers, and drive root-cause analysis for complex hardware anomalies.
- Ensure design for manufacturing, cost, quality, reliability and certification.
What you'll need
- Master's or Bachelor of Engineering (BE/BTech.) in Electrical / Electronics Engineering with 12+ years of relevant experience, preferably Aerospace.
- 12-15 years of experience in the high power electronics domain, such as DC/DC and DC/AC converter design, AC drives and field-oriented control hardware implementation.
- Strong fundamentals in semiconductor switches (MOSFET, IGBT), gate drivers, passive components, ADC/DAC, filters, etc.
- Hands-on experience with any one of the power converter design and analysis types (AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC, AC-AC).
- Strong understanding of sensing and protection circuits and schemes (over voltage, over current, over temperature, etc.).
- Understanding of grounding schemes related to functional, safety isolations, low level signal vs high power, EMI/EMC, and lightning.
- Experience in power supply / motor drive related PCB layout, EMC, and thermal design.
- Experience in serial protocols such as CAN, I2C, SPI, UART, etc.
- Expert in using lab test equipment such as DMM, oscilloscope, and data logger.
- Good understanding of conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibilities.
- Experience in the full product development lifecycle (requirements through qualification).
- Experience in electrical CAD tools (Altium, Mentor Graphics schematics and layout tools, Allegro).
- Experience in LTSpice and MATLAB simulation.
- Experience in modeling and simulation tools for thermal, efficiency, and stability analysis.
- Exposure to thermal management and EMI/EMC in aerospace systems, and industry standards such as DO-254, DO-160 and Mil-704F.
- Understanding of aerospace environmental requirements, particularly DO-160.
- Extensive experience with motor-actuator dynamometer setups, high-voltage safety protocols, and precision instrumentation.
- Strong technical leadership and decision-making ability.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Nice to have
- Experience with aerospace electro-mechanical actuators.
- Direct experience developing hardware under DO-254 Design Assurance Level (DAL A to C) regulations.
- Familiarity with aerospace systems safety analysis processes including FMEA.
- Ability to travel internationally for occasional design review meetings with peers/customers and system-level integration activities.
- Motor controller development using high-performance microcontrollers/FPGA.
