Principal Engineer, VP

Overview

Join as a Principal Engineer at vice president level, driving software development and tools to deliver platforms, applications and services for the bank, and leading the technical delivery of one or more software engineering teams.

What you'll do

• Drive development of software and tools to accomplish project and departmental objectives by converting functional and non-functional requirements into suitable designs.
• Plan, develop and deploy high performance, robust and resilient systems for the bank.
• Manage the technical delivery of one or more software engineering teams.
• Lead wider participation in internal and industry-wide events, conferences and other activities.
• Design and develop high performance and high availability applications using proven frameworks and technologies.
• Ensure the bank's systems follow excellent architectural and engineering principles and are fit for purpose.
• Monitor technical progress against plans while safeguarding functionality, scalability and performance, and provide progress updates to stakeholders.
• Design and develop reusable libraries and APIs for use across the bank.
• Write unit and integration tests within automated test environments to ensure code quality.

What you'll need

• 12+ years of experience with the skillsets listed below.
• Core knowledge and expertise with a strong background in AWS cloud technologies and cloud-native architectures.
• Practitioner knowledge of software engineering best practices, including Agile and DevOps frameworks.
• Proven ability to produce high-quality software designs, architecture roadmaps and technical standards.
• Strong programming and analytical skills, with the ability to apply AI-driven approaches to solve complex problems.
• Experience leading Proofs of Concept (PoCs), technology evaluations and innovation initiatives from concept through to production.
• Experience designing and delivering end-to-end solution flows across complex enterprise environments.
• Experience defining platform architecture for model serving, AI gateways, APIs, observability, and security and governance.
• Experience collaborating across engineering, product, architecture, data science and security teams to deliver business outcomes.
• Proven expertise in creating High-Level Solution Designs (HLSDs) and Detailed Solution Designs.
• Hands-on experience with DevOps tools, including Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python for platform engineering, automation and AI/ML solution development.
• Strong experience in cloud architecture, preferably AWS.
• Strong programming and analytical skills with practical experience applying AI to real-world problems.

Nice to have

• Experience with Amazon Connect.
• Familiarity with AI agents, Guardrails, and Responsible AI principles and implementations.
• Expertise in GenAI platform architecture, AI/ML solutions and cloud-native technologies.
• AWS Cloud Architect certification.
• Strong knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, model orchestration and LLM-based solutions.
