Principal Software Architect

Overview

Principal Software Architect to lead the technical vision and future-state architecture for FactSet’s expanding Data Platform within the Data Solutions organization.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with fellow architects to develop and maintain future-state architecture for the data platform.
• Provide architectural guidance and oversight for storage/access, orchestration, and data acquisition domains.
• Partner with execution teams to bridge strategy and implementation.
• Lead development and review of Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and governance.
• Mentor senior engineers and technical leads, identifying skill gaps and promoting technical talent growth.
• Drive architectural patterns for data governance, metadata management, and semantic layers.
• Influence technology selection and evaluate new tools and platforms aligned to strategy.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in data engineering, data platforms, and data infrastructure.
• Proven software architect/principal engineer experience designing large-scale data systems/platforms.
• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT and data pipeline orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, or similar).
• Cloud infrastructure expertise, particularly AWS services (S3, Glue, EMR, Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, etc.).
• Deep understanding of data lakehouse architectures and experience with Databricks or Snowflake.
• Proficiency in Python and relevant data engineering libraries for production data systems.
• Experience developing/communicating architectural vision and creating ADRs with governance practices.
