Principal Software Engineer

Overview

Lead the technical development and delivery of Debt Manager software within the Financial Wellbeing Platform, delivering customer-driven solutions across the project life cycle. The role provides technical leadership, mentoring and guidance, with direct line management accountability for multiple teams.

What you'll do

• Design, build and implement front-end and back-end changes, focusing on operational stability, robustness, resilience and quality.

What you'll need

• 16+ years of experience.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas.
• Experience configuring and customizing the Debt Manager application for Retail customers, including workflows, user role entitlements and front-end user functionality.
• Skill in aligning application configurations with business requirements to optimize support for customers in financial difficulties.
• Experience adjusting application settings, creating custom fields and modifying user interfaces to enhance functionality and user experience.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting and resolving configuration-related issues in the Debt Manager Platform.
• Proficiency using ETL tools such as Pentaho Data Integration to design, test and deploy data transformation workflows.
• Skill extracting, transforming and loading data across various sources to ensure accuracy and efficiency in data pipelines.
• Experience with SQL Server for database administration, SQL statements, complex stored procedures, dynamic SQL queries, functions, scripts, and using SQL to query, analyse and manipulate data.
• Strong knowledge of database optimisation, indexing and performance tuning to support reliable operations.
• Excellent data analysis skills.
• Experience implementing data quality checks, data cleansing and validation to ensure high-quality data in ETL processes.
• Strong adoption of version control and source code management.
• Competence in Agile methodologies for collaboration and iterative development.
• Technical leadership within and outside the team, including coaching and/or mentoring other engineers as appropriate.
• Capability as a technical leader who takes ownership of design and delivery and is willing to help grow and guide junior engineers towards appropriate target architectures.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with experience managing multiple teams.
• Primary skills: SQL, ETL, DevOps and CI/CD expertise, such as GitHub, Jenkins, Harness and UCD, and data analysis.

• COBOL and Mainframe experience.
