Principal Systems Engineer - BESS Product Development

Overview

Principal Systems Engineer for Fluence’s BESS product development, driving system architecture, technical meetings, and engineering excellence across the product portfolio.

What you'll do

• Act as systems architecture lead for utility-scale energy storage products (BESS) and platform development.
• Develop and oversee product system architecture integrating batteries, PCS, transformers, communications, auxiliary power, mechanical, software, and controls.
• Lead system-level requirements, functional decomposition, ICDs, and technical specifications.
• Drive technical trade-offs and resolve complex cross-disciplinary engineering challenges.
• Define verification and validation (V&V) strategies and oversee hardware testing and qualification protocols (FAT/SAT).
• Own safety and risk engineering activities (DFMEA, FMEA, HARA, FTA) and support compliance with global standards and codes.
• Mentor systems engineers and help establish systems engineering best practices.

What you'll need

• 12+ years of industry experience in systems engineering, product development, or system architecture.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering discipline such as Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, Computer, or related field.
• Deep experience with utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Power Conversion Systems (PCS).
• Strong systems engineering expertise across requirements, functional decomposition, interface management, system architecture, and V&V.
• Technical background across electrical, mechanical, controls, embedded, and software systems.
• Experience conducting safety and risk assessments (DFMEA, FMEA, HARA) and root cause analysis.
