R&D Application Engineer

Overview

R&D Application Engineer supporting the strategic technology direction by contributing ideas for identifying, proposing and implementing innovative technology, software and solutions, within the MODP Business Division in Peenya, Bangalore, India.

What you'll do

• Assist the Research and Development (R&D) team by executing assigned tasks and using technical knowledge in a structured way.
• Stay abreast of the state of the art and actively apply this knowledge.
• Contribute to continuous product development in collaboration with global R&D units.
• Develop and execute application programming in CoDeSys, FBD, C, ladder, motion and servo applications.
• Understand customer needs and implement them.
• Run trials at factory and site for application proof.
• Provide internal and customer (backend) support and application support for sales.
• Deliver product technical training (internal/external).
• Work as a reliable contributor in R&D projects, using technical know-how in your area of competence to solve problems.
• Support achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost), and raise and address risks.
• Know the key drivers for ABB in your own area and perform activities in line with the current direction.

What you'll need

• University degree (B.Tech/B.E) in Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, or Electronics and Instrumentation.
• Minimum of 5-8 years' technical experience working with variable frequency drives (low voltage) or similar area.
• Thorough understanding of variable frequency drive working principles.
• Knowledge of functional programming, ladder logic and structured text.
• Working or development experience on different applications.
• Technical and practical approach.
• Customer- and result-oriented working style.

Nice to have

• Commissioning experience in ABB drives and other ABB products (PLC) or similar.
• Embedded programming knowledge.
• Process know-how of different industries.

Details

• Location: Peenya, Bangalore, India.
• Office and site travel based on customer and project requirements (25 to 50%).
• Reports to: R&D Senior Engineer.
