R&D Team Lead

Overview

Lead an R&D engineering team at Payoneer, a global financial platform, in designing, building and running scalable backend systems for complex cross-border payment scenarios.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with your team and cross-functional teams, including Architects, DevOps, SRE and R&D, to ensure seamless communication and workflow.
• Assume a leadership role in achieving team objectives, contributing to the design, architecture, development, quality and production deployment of the team's systems.
• Design and implement robust, scalable and maintainable backend solutions for complex scenarios, ensuring high-quality output that can be used by other teams.
• Translate high-level business goals into actionable project plans for the team.
• Maintain and enhance the team's engineering practices by suggesting and implementing technological and process improvements.
• Identify and proactively address areas for improvement in team systems, processes and scalability.
• Lead by example in code quality, significantly contributing to code reviews and serving as a focal point for engineering excellence.
• Oversee production systems, investigate potential issues and lead efforts to resolve critical challenges while maintaining a customer-centric approach.
• Leverage deep, hands-on technical expertise in infrastructure, with a strong understanding of building and maintaining scalable, reliable and secure systems.
• Exhibit calm and effective leadership in diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues under pressure.

What you'll need

• 10+ years as a server-side developer using Java, C# and .NET, along with REST APIs.
• 5+ years of experience with SQL (MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.).
• 2+ years with observability systems (e.g., Dynatrace, Grafana, Coralogix).
• Over 3 years of managerial experience in leading customer-facing product development.
• Experience with messaging queues or streams such as RabbitMQ, SQS or Kafka.
• Broad knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming and design patterns.
• Familiarity with engineering best practices (unit tests, code reviews, test coverage, agile methodologies).
• A strong team player with a passion for managing and nurturing talent.
• Eager to learn and grow in the field.
• B.E./BS in Computer Science or an equivalent degree.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Kubernetes.
• Practical experience with Agile development methodologies.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud).
• Familiarity with non-relational databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis).
• Experience mentoring new hires and interns, fostering a culture of collaboration and best practices.
