Job description

Overview

Reservoir Simulation Engineer role in Chevron's Reservoir Engineering and Simulation team at the ENGINE center in Bengaluru, focused on applying, testing, deploying and supporting Reservoir Simulation and Optimization (RSO) technologies across Chevron's global asset portfolio.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with U.S.-based R&D teams to test, pilot, deploy and support reservoir simulation and optimization technologies and reservoir engineering workflows.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and provide customer support for RSO workflows and digital applications.
  • Conduct reservoir engineering and simulation studies for a wide range of oil and gas assets, including building new simulation models and updating existing models in partnership with geoscientists and other subsurface professionals.
  • Perform history matching of production and pressure data and generate forecasts to support field development and optimization decisions.
  • Contribute to user experience, data management and digital product development, including dashboards, visualization tools, machine learning applications and cloud-native solutions.
  • Support software testing, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), build and release processes, and cloud-based application deployment.
  • Participate in the development of new/enhanced technical capabilities, software features and training materials.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to less experienced engineers.

What you'll need

  • Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 3-7 years of experience in petroleum engineering, with emphasis on reservoir simulation, production and field development optimization, and technology application or development to support reservoir management and decision-making.
  • Hands-on experience with probabilistic forecasting, history matching, uncertainty analysis and production optimization studies.
  • Strong understanding of subsurface uncertainty management and optimization workflows, including design of experiments, assisted history matching and decision-support methodologies.
  • Experience integrating reservoir simulation and optimization workflows with modern digital platforms and standards (e.g., DELFI, OSDU, RESQML).
  • Demonstrated experience in testing, deployment and support of digital technologies, with an understanding of business needs and Agile/SAFe development processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and build stakeholder alignment.

Nice to have

  • Ph.D. in a related discipline.
  • Experience in developing engineering software using Python, C#, C++, high-performance computing (MPI, GPU, multithreading) and cloud-native architectures.
  • Familiarity with Azure ecosystems, including data pipelines, dashboards, visualization platforms and data management systems.
  • Experience in applying machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to improve reservoir simulation, optimization and decision-making workflows.
  • Knowledge of one or more specialized areas such as flow-geomechanics coupling, surface-subsurface production system integration, unconventional reservoirs, uncertainty quantification, optimization, fracture and DFN modeling, computational geoscience/stratigraphy, gridding technologies, and IOR/EOR processes.

Details

  • Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
  • Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday, which may evolve based on operational or business requirements.
