Senior Backend Engineer (Python), Agent Developer: Flow Components

Overview

Senior Backend Engineer (Python) focused on Flow Components for GitLab’s Flow Registry, which provides reusable primitives for agentic flows on the GitLab Duo Agent Platform.

What you'll do

• Develop, ship, and maintain Flow Registry features for the Duo Workflow Service and the GitLab monolith backend.
• Collaborate with product, UX, frontend, backend, and AI specialists to refine requirements and deliver iterative improvements.
• Design, implement, and review GraphQL and REST APIs and backend logic with clear contracts for frontend clients.
• Improve automated testing using RSpec and other frameworks.
• Participate in Tier 2 on-call to troubleshoot production issues and contribute to root cause analysis.
• Support responsible AI integration through sharing standards, patterns, and lessons.

What you'll need

• Experience building and maintaining production Python applications with LangChain and LangGraph (including background jobs, APIs, and data models).
• Experience building and shipping AI-powered backend features and integrations with responsible production use.
• Proficiency designing or extending REST and GraphQL APIs for scalability, maintainability, and backward compatibility.
• Strong SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases like PostgreSQL.
• Comfort working across the stack in a mature codebase, including performance bottleneck troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with JavaScript and Vue frontend development and user experience principles.
