Overview
Senior Cloud Developer role in HPE Hybrid Cloud, working on the design, development and reliability of Network Topology Management (NTM) and, secondarily, Network Configuration Management (NCM) for the GreenLake cloud platform.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and maintain Network Topology Management accuracy and reliability.
- Build and optimize topology discovery and processing pipelines for L2 and L3 relationships.
- Debug and resolve topology defects.
- Improve topology reconciliation, graph consistency, and end-to-end observability.
- Collaborate with backend, frontend, network domain, SRE, and product teams to deliver NTM-first solutions.
- Build operational tooling and diagnostics for fast root-cause analysis in distributed systems.
- Contribute to Network Configuration Management as secondary focus, including backup, compliance, remediation, and restore reliability.
- Improve user-facing workflows for topology and configuration operations in UI experiences.
- Support production readiness through testing, monitoring, performance tuning, and incident response.
- Identify and drive improvements in reliability, scalability, and maintainability of NTM and NCM systems.
- Design and develop diverse network topologies in virtual environments using tools such as Netlab and Containerlab.
What you'll need
- 8-12+ years of software engineering experience in scalable enterprise systems.
- Strong Java programming: robust, scalable Java applications with a solid grasp of core development fundamentals, object-oriented design, and microservices architecture.
- Deep understanding of network fundamentals, including L2/L3 concepts (VLANs, Routing), gateway protocols (BGP), and secure tunnels (IPsec, GRE).
- Exceptional analytical and algorithmic problem-solving skills, with a track record of debugging complex systems and tackling distributed engineering challenges.
- Hands-on experience with any network device OS such as Arista (EOS), Cisco (NXOS, IOS, XE-IOS), Juniper (Junos), Aruba, etc.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Docker, Containerlab, Netlab, Postman, etc.
- Must have knowledge of SNMP and hands-on experience with network device CLI.
- Experience with APIs, asynchronous workflows, and data processing pipelines.
- Experience debugging production issues across service, data, and UI layers.
- Ability to design robust retry, failure handling, and recovery mechanisms.
- Must have strong AI-first SDLC skills.
- Good exposure to AI agents, skills, and workflows to automate work.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with focus on operational impact and customer outcomes.
Nice to have
- Network discovery and observability: experience with network discovery, topology reconciliation at scale, and observability tooling for logs, metrics, and traces.
- Full-stack capabilities: hands-on exposure to front-end development, particularly React and TypeScript, for operational UI integrations.
- Systems engineering: experience with performance tuning, reliability engineering, and building resilient cloud architectures.
- Security and design: a security-first mindset when building multi-tenant systems, coupled with strong cross-domain knowledge and design-thinking principles.
- Release management: familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines and agile release management.
