Senior Database Administrator, Officer

Overview

Senior Database Administrator in the Database Operations team at Charles River Development, a State Street Company, responsible for the design, administration and daily operation of critical Production, Disaster Recovery and Test database systems in hybrid on-premise and cloud environments, with a heavy emphasis on SQL Server and Azure SQL Database.

What you'll do

• Ensure the availability and optimization of MSSQL and Azure SQL databases, both on-premises and in the cloud.
• Follow technical standards and operational procedures to meet database performance, availability, scalability and security requirements in hosted and cloud environments.
• Assist in resolving priority incidents to quickly eliminate impacts, participate in root-cause analysis, and support corrective and preventative actions.
• Work closely with the Database Team Lead and collaborate with Operations and other teams to optimize database performance and reliability.
• Automate repetitive tasks and enable early detection and automated mitigation of potential issues using ServiceNow, PowerShell, TSQL, Kusto and similar tools.
• Research and assist teams in making their application and database environments cloud ready.
• Establish, maintain and adhere to CRD technical standards, policies and procedures.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 9+ years of experience working with large MS SQL Server databases in a 24 x 7 x 365 production environment.
• 5+ years of MS SQL Server production database administration experience supporting large environments.
• 2+ years of expert-level performance tuning experience, using all available tools and methods to improve slow performing queries and procedures at the database and server level.
• 1+ year of hands-on experience operating MS SQL servers and related technologies in Azure.
• Good understanding of database encryption, high-availability, disaster recovery, database replication, and SSRS administration.
• Detail oriented, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an aggressive self-starter.
• A strong sense of customer service, attention to detail, and issue ownership.

Nice to have

• Industry certifications for Azure, MS SQL Server or related technologies (e.g. DP-300, AZ-900 Exam).
• Understanding of ITIL concepts.
