Job description

Overview

Senior Electrical Components Engineer for Generac Energy Technologies, responsible for the selection, quality, reliability and performance of wire wound and analog components, specializing in electrolytic capacitors, used across Generac's energy products.

What you'll do

  • Participate in design reviews with Electrical Engineering, contributing to the development and validation of electrical systems, including schematics, PCB layouts, and wiring diagrams for solar and battery energy storage applications.
  • Utilize circuit simulation tools such as LTspice to analyze and validate electrical designs, ensuring component selection meets performance, reliability, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong expertise in wire-wound components, including selection based on design requirements, electrical performance under stress conditions, material selection, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Provide technical quality support for transformers, inductors, chokes, and other magnetic components, including review of component drawings, specifications, and critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics.
  • Audit magnetics manufacturing processes, including core assembly, winding, wire handling, insulation, soldering, termination, varnishing, and final testing; evaluate winding quality, wire tension, wire routing, insulation integrity, core alignment, and mechanical workmanship.
  • Apply strong knowledge of power electronics, including high-frequency AC-DC, DC-AC, and DC-DC conversion topologies.
  • Analyze and interpret component datasheets to support optimal component selection, electrical performance, and reliability.
  • Serve as a key contributor to electrical design reviews, ensuring component reliability and alignment with system requirements.
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications to verify quality requirements; identify and communicate gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Identify CTQ components within BOMs and manage supplier PPAP activities to ensure component quality, reliability, and compliance requirements are met.
  • Apply 8D problem-solving methodologies to investigate component issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and issue SCARs to suppliers to drive effective corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct electrical and electronic component supplier process audits across domestic and South Asian locations, evaluating manufacturing processes, quality controls, testing, process capability, and corrective-action effectiveness.
  • Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Reliability teams to resolve component issues and support new product development, qualification, and production readiness.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • At least 5 years of manufacturing high reliability electronic, electromechanical products with a focus on quality management in a contract manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience in electronic parts selection and qualification to ensure parts are qualified by design documents and selected test parameters.
  • Experience working on electronic assembly environments with contract manufacturing where component qualification through Parts PPAP process and IQC was required.
  • Must possess strong technical fluency in selecting wire wound magnetics.
  • Experience with eCAD tools like Altium, Eagle to design review an electrical design at schematic and layout levels.
  • Solid quantitative skill set and the ability to analyze and communicate with well-supported data.
  • Proficient with the suite of Office Software, Quality and Statistical tools.
  • An individual critical thinker to strategically align actions to needs and set goals for a technical team for success.

Nice to have

  • Formally trained in magnetics design for power electronic applications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of PCBA manufacturing process and testing.
  • Support quality assurance for analog components such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, voltage regulators, operational amplifiers, and other discrete or integrated analog devices.
  • Strong expertise in electrolytic capacitors, including capacitance, ESR, leakage current, ripple-current capability, voltage and temperature ratings, endurance and life testing, failure modes, and manufacturing quality processes.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles; Six Sigma green or black belt preferred.
  • IEEE certification.
  • Proven experience collaborating with multiple sites and functions to drive common solutions.
  • Experience collaborating with component manufacturers, distributors, and field application engineers (FAEs) to stay current on new product introductions and application-specific solutions.

Details

  • Location: Pune, India.
  • Up to 30/40% travel may be required.
  • Candidate must be flexible with work hours to collaborate with the team in the USA.
