Senior Engineer - Data Analytics

Overview

Senior Engineer for Data Analytics on TJX's Global Stores and Supply Chain Solution Delivery team, designing enterprise data engineering and reporting solutions across the global stores organization.

What you'll do

• Build advanced Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models tailored to business needs, and implement DAX calculations and optimize queries for performance.
• Create and maintain data models ensuring accuracy and scalability, and connect Power BI to multiple data sources (SQL Server, Azure, APIs).
• Build JAVA/.NET/Python based UI screens to facilitate the reports.
• Monitor and improve report performance using best practices for data modeling and query optimization.
• Implement Row-Level Security (RLS), manage user access, and ensure compliance with organizational data governance standards.
• Work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs, translate requirements into technical specifications and deliverables.
• Guide junior engineers and provide best practice recommendations.
• Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to BI development standards.
• Manage Power BI Service environments, including workspaces and gateways, and support CI/CD pipelines for BI solutions.
• Stay updated on Power BI / Sigma features, data visualization trends, and the Azure BI ecosystem.
• Develop a solid understanding of end-to-end business application processes.
• Recommend enhancements to improve reporting efficiency and user experience.
• Drive adoption of Gen AI and Agentic AI to enhance analytics, automation, and decision-making.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Engineering skillset / training / work experience in relevant technical domain.
• 5+ years of strong experience in BI/reporting development, with at least 2–3 years focused on Power BI / Sigma.
• Good experience in UI screens development to facilitate the reports.
• Hands-on experience in leading and delivering medium to large scale projects end to end, with good understanding of coding standards, performance tuning and database concepts.
• Demonstrated leadership in reporting from data warehousing, database and data lake.
• Strong communication and influence skills.
• Solid team player with mentorship skills.
• Ability to understand the work environment and competing priorities in conjunction with developing/meeting project goals.

• Strong automation and engineering mindset.
• Experience working in an Agile (Scrum/Kanban/SAFe) environment.
• Strong experience with Power BI or other enterprise BI platforms (like Cognos & Sigma) for developing scalable, high-impact dashboards, reports, and semantic data models tailored to retail operations.
• Strong proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M language) for complex business logic, data transformations, and performance optimization in large-scale reporting environments.
• Expertise in dimensional data modelling, including star and snowflake schemas, to support consistent and reusable analytics.
• Hands-on experience integrating Power BI or similar BI tools with Snowflake and Azure Data Factory (ADF) for building robust, automated data pipelines and analytics workflows.
• Proficient in SQL and PL/SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis across cloud (Azure, Snowflake) or on-premises data environments.
• Experience with Python for automation, data wrangling, and enhancing BI workflows with advanced analytics or ML model outputs.
• Good experience in UI screens development to facilitate the reports using JAVA/.NET/Python.
• Working knowledge of GitHub or similar version control systems for collaborative development, code reviews, and CI/CD integration.
• Proficient in Shell Scripting for automating data workflows and managing system tasks, especially in Linux/RHEL environments.
• Familiarity with scheduling tools such as Control-M, Autosys, or Azure Scheduler for orchestrating complex BI and data engineering jobs across distributed systems.

Nice to have

• Programming languages like Spark, Python, PySpark.
• Experience with tools such as JIRA, ServiceNow.
• Knowledge of IT Security & Compliance.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for BI solution deployment.
• Familiarity with advanced analytics and machine learning integration within BI platforms.
